Prospect Wire continues its journey out West, this time landing in the baseball-rich city of Mesa, Arizona, for the highly anticipated Southwest Championships. This year’s event brings together 24 elite teams from across the Southwest, including powerhouse programs from Arizona, California, Texas, and Nevada.
Year after year, the Southwest Championships have proven to be a stomping ground for top-tier talent, producing numerous Prospect Wire All-Americans and showcasing players who go on to compete at the next level. The 2025 field is no exception and promises to carry on that tradition of excellence. Here are a few teams and programs to keep an eye on throughout the week.
Marucci Athletics (Peoria, AZ): The Marucci Athletics are a staple in the Arizona travel ball scene, the Athletics are widely recognized for their elite coaching and consistently talented rosters. Known as a program that makes deep playoff runs in nearly every event the enter, the Athletics will be well represented this week in Mesa with four teams competing-three in the 15u division and one in the 16u division. Expect all four squads to be competitive as the aim to continue the organization’s strong tradition of success at Prospect Wire events. Recently, the Athletics broke through and moved into double digit title territory with their 10th Prospect Wire championship. Their Thomas 2026 team won the Upperclass Division of a talented San Diego Invitational. The win moved them into a tie with CBA Victus & TB SoCal for 7th all time on the PW Championship Leaderboard.
CBA Bulldogs (Rancho Cucamonga, CA): CBA is a nationally recognized name in the travel ball industry, the CBA Bulldogs are synonymous with elite player development and strong college exposure. With track record of success on the big stages, CBA continues to be a pipeline for future stars. This week in Mesa, they’ll be sending two squads-one in the 15u division and one in the 18u division-both look to uphold the Bulldogs’ winning tradition and make a serious push toward a championship run. A program that has been filled with Prospect Wire All Americans, this year's squads will be looking to bring home their 4th PW Championship all time.
Trosky Arizona (Pheonix, AZ): Trosky is another major name on the national travel ball circuit, Trosky Arizona has built a strong reputation for developing high-level talent and helping players take the next step in their baseball journey. This week, the program is rolling into Mesa with two teams-one in the 16u division and one in the 18u division. Both squads have the tools to make a deep run and contend for a championship, as they look to add more hardware to the Trosky legacy. Last year, Trosky Arizona claimed their first 2 Prospect Wire championships, with a win in California at the Firecracker Classic (15U Division) and then following that up immediately after with a 14U title in this Mesa event. Expect their squads to factor in the outcome of their divisions.
Nomadic Baseball (Gilbert, AZ): The Kings of Mesa, Nomadic Baseball has become synonymous with championships in this town. Winners of 6 West Coast Championships in the last 3 years, Nomadic will be looking to take home their 1st Southwest Championship, and 7th overall title this year. They have been nothing short of dominating in their run in Mesa, and we expect the same to hold true this go around, as they enter their 15U Signature squad in this event. Will they move up closer to the PW All Time Top 10 Champions List?
Top Tier Las Vegas (Las Vegas, NV): Coming off the West Coast Championships that saw them go 1-2-1, there is more than meets the eye to this Top Tier squad from Sin City. Looking closer, we can see that they had two 2-1 battles against a tough Angels squad, as well as the Upperclass runner up, AZ Sandlot, a game which they won. Their only tough defeat came at the hands of eventual champions, Idaho Prospects Baseball. So the expectations are high for this group. Expect them to lean on those recent battles as they try to make a run this week in Mesa.
Canyon Thunder (Phoenix, AZ): The Canyon Thunder have enjoyed a lot of success in Mesa over the years. Until just recently, they were the only organization in Prospect Wire history to win 4 consecutive championships in the same event (West Coast Championships). The South FL Giants just accomplished the task at our Father's Day Classic. A late entry into the field of 24, Canyon Thunder will be looking to win their first PW title since 2018.
