Florida Sluggers Tryout Recap

The Florida Sluggers Summer tryout was held this weekend at Foundation Academy in Winter Garden. The Sluggers had a great turnout for their pro-style workout! Thank you to Jose, Bien, and the Sluggers staff for having Prospect Wire out to cover the tryout!

Standout performers include:

Tsubasa Sasaki (2026 OF)- Sasaki was one of the more impressive players at the tryout as he was smooth in the outfield defensively and ran the fastest 60 times on the day with a 6.8. Sasaki's bat was a simple, middle field approach on a windy day with the ball traveling he stayed within himself and just sprayed line drives to the middle part of the field.

Jayden Benfer (2026 UTIL)- Benfer impressed with everything he did on the day whether it was running one of the fastest 60s (7.08) on the day, having the top OF velo (87mph), a great BP round, and topping it off with an impressive outing on the mound showcasing a solid 3 pitch mix.

Yusef Charles (2026 IF)- Charles put together a solid BP round displaying plus bat speed and pull side power leaving the yard a handful of times. Charles profiles while to be a corner infield with above average arm strength. Charles is an intriguing 2026 prospect to see how he develops as he shows some promise to have a high level bat.

Charlie Capozzoli (2026 OF)- Smooth left handed hitter with above average barrel control. Capozzoli also impressed defensively with an outfield velocity of 83mph.

Tristan Closson (2026 C)- Closson was impressive behind the dish showcasing above average catch and throw ability as he had a 1.93 pop time. Closson showed off his versatility defensively as well as he was 84mph from the outfield.

Sebastian Davila (2026 IF)- Davila showcased above average hands at SS during the infield portion along with solid range and an arm velocity of 84mph. Davila also had a solid left handed swing that generated consistent solid contact.

Tristan Rocha (2026 IF/RHP)- Rocha had a solid day at the plate showcasing average bat to ball skills from both sides of the plate as a switch hitter. However, it was when Rocha jumped on the mound that he really caught our staff's attention. Rocha came from a sidearm slot that generated very impressive spin numbers and gave hitters fits. Rocha's fastball had plus arm side run and paired it with a slider that had great bite to it due to the spin rate that got up to 2318.

Jose Taveras (2026 C/RHP)- Taveras is a strong traditional catcher's build with good catch and throw ability as he showcased with his 1.96 pop time. He showed some pull side pop during BP from the right side. He also showed a some raw ability on the mound showcasing a 4 pitch mix primarily leaning on a FB/CB/CH combo while mixing in the occasional knuckleball.

David Hey (2029 OF)- Hey is a young 2029 with some projectability. Hey moved well in the outfield and impressed with an above average arm as he was 79mph from the OF. Hey also showed some potential at the plate with a mature swing for his young age.
