Yesterday, the West Coast Championships kicked off in Mesa, AZ at the Chicago Cubs Complex at Riverview Park. There was a lot of intense action on the fields, with several games going down to the wire…a few even ending in walk off fashion. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights from Day 1:
2027 RHP Collin Huber (AZ Hitmen) was sharp on the mound for his squad. He went 5 IP, scattering 5 hits while striking out 9 batters! His FB velocity topped out at 84 mph, with a swing and miss SL that sat around 72 mph
2026 RHP Mason Porter (AZ Sandlot) had his FB working yesterday, regularly sitting 85-87. His repeatable delivery kept him on plane all day, making life uncomfortable for hitters.
2028 RHP Thomas Joesten (Nomadic Baseball) looked impressive yesterday during his outing. The young RHP garnered All American Watch List recognition after showing some good armside run on his 84 mph FB.
2027 RHP Colton Johnston (Nomadic Baseball) was another impressive arm from the Nomadic organization. With smooth, fluid mechanics, to go along with a loose arm, Johnston went 6 strong yesterday, striking out 6, with his low 80’s FB that missed barrels often.
2027 Zachary Mermis (Angels Baseball) showed some impressive pop yesterday. Here is a highlight of him burning the CF for a triple during his game at the Cubs complex. Wood Bat too!
2026 Andres Lozano (Angels Baseball) unloaded on this pitch and drives one to deep RCF for a 2 run bomb!
2026 RHP Bradley Hartung (Nomadic Baseball) is a RHP to watch out for. With a FB that sat 86-87 yesterday, it is clear that Hartung has more in the tank. Quick arm path and a sharp, biting SL make him a prospect to watch.
2028 3B Hunter Newkirk (Marucci Athletics) was all over the highlights yesterday, making great plays offensively and defensively, like this one to cut a runner down at home plate during his game.
2027 1B Benton Hales (Angels Baseball) delivered a big moment yesterday with a 2 out knock to drive in the game winning runs and give his team a huge come from behind win to kick off the event.
